Mashhad is the capital city of Khorasan e Razavi province and the second most populous city in Iran, after Tehran the national capital. It is located in the northeast of the country, near the borders with Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
Mashhad is named after Imam Ali Raza (as), means the burial place of the martyr. The Holy Shrine of Imam Ali Raza (as) is the most important and historical monument of Mashhad. Every year approximately 28 million pilgrimages visit Mashhad to show their respect to the eighth Imam, Hazrat Ali ibn e Musa Raza (as).
